In our first assignment, we were asked to take one of three headlines and create a memette about the topic. We posted our results and comments to the blog. The article I chose was about the giant sinkhole in Texas. I was very unaccomplished with Photoshop, so you can see how very crude my first attemts were. Click the image to see my first memette.

Our second memette was an introduction to CSS. We did some simple styling like font color and size, background color, etc. We were introduced to Creative Commons licensed images rather than ripping junk of Google images. The concept was a ruined picture.

Our third big assignment was to develop a Photoshop comp that would illustrate our design concept for our page. This page would serve as a metephor for the class, and would include links to all the other students' works. We were limited in our choices. I chose "summer camp" and imagined we were at The Fine Arts Magnet School Camp.

In this memette we were restricted to only a few images with which to practice our Photoshop skills. I used this strange piece of sculpture that reminded me of an alien baby.

In this memette we practiced list-making. The content comes from an article about the difficulties one faces when one has to decide what to do with a laptop in an internet cafe. This is also the first time I inserted a hyperlink.

In this memette, we were asked to respond to the recent record-breaking sale of a Francis Bacon triptych.

This memette is in response to an article on the amount of food Americans waste. This is an attempt at an infographic. It is done entirely in CSS.

We were given 10 minutes to write a funny, fictional article. Then we swapped with another student, and attempted to create a realistic, satirical site. We then had to promote the site to places like Digg, reddit, etc. This naive effort offended some people, and for that humbly apologize. I will get rid of "alternative" asap!

In this memette, we created a site that pokes fun at smilepolitely.com, the local "news" source. We wrote five truthful, but hopefully humorous articles.

My main objective with this assignment was to practice image rollovers.

Samuel’s assignment was as follows: "Good for Obama, but what about Clinton? Will she want to fall in line? Make a webpage that includes video of Obama’s victory speech, and relevant items that jest at Clinton’s expressions, as if she were in his audience when his announcement was made. Make sure to use hyperlinks to a referenced website, Google ads and analytics." I actually had fun with this one. I am embarrassed to admit that this was really the first time I wrote the code entirely from scratch. It made so much more sense! It all clicked today. YEAH! I hope the rest of my coding goes as smoothly as this did. Thanks for the fun idea Samuel. This is the last memette!
